Another day in the life of...

Thanks, Derek, for the reminder. I was about to break a habit.

I've decided the rambling on about each day of the previous week just doesn't work for me. I'd rather just ramble, so "I beg your pardon", but here I go.

This week has been as hectic as ever. Matt will remain in his cast until near the end of February. Hallelujah when that day arrives!

Coralee and I have decided it will be too difficult to try and bring him to church while he is in the cast, because it has already been challenging enough to juggle him and an infant at church, even before the injury. I stayed home this week for the first half, and then Coralee returned and allowed me to go for the latter half to teach my lesson. For an hour prior to my opportunity to go to church, I spent it cleaning up poop that Matt managed to get all throughout his cast. Apparently, this kid had been saving up and he managed to drop a "man sized" load. This may have been more than a "man sized" load. I think he rivaled a small pony.

The challenging thing about the cast is that it has a small opening for a small diaper to be tucked into the cast. We then wrap a larger diaper over the smaller diaper that overlaps the cast to prevent any spillage. Because the smaller diaper is so tightly wrapped next to his body, it generally means any productivity he has only has one place to go, and that is up the front. As long as this kid doesn't save up and he can produce on a regular basis, the cleanup isn't so bad and we can catch it before it can go anywhere, but on this occasion, I thought I had died and gone to Hell.

Speaking of going to Hell, Jack Bauer has returned for the sixth season of "24" to send terrorists to said destination. What a great show! I've been a big fan since its inception. They continue to raise the bar and the show never ceases to amaze and keep me on the edge of my seat. If you haven't tuned in, it is a must see. All of the previous five seasons are available on DVD, so if you are bored and are looking for something to do, rent those DVDs.

Last night was "temple night" for our Stake. At 8:30 was a special chapel meeting where all of the stake members meet together in the chapel for a meeting to hear our Stake President and the Temple President speak. It is always a neat opportunity to get away and to be uplifted spiritually. Because Coralee has been under the weather, we decided it would be best if I went to the meeting. I left home around 7:15, because last year's Stake Temple Night was on a night when it was so busy that I couldn't find a parking place. I didn't want to risk another night like that, so I left with plenty of time to find a parking place. Last night was no different. There were no parking places anywhere, so I had to park outside the temple grounds on the street just west of the temple.

When I got inside the temple to change into the proper attire, the locker room was crowded and there were no changing stations available. I had to wait for about 15 minutes until something came available. When I finally got to my station and undressed, I opened up my temple bag and found that I had no white pants and no white tie. I had last used them for Bryson's baptism and I had not put them back in my bag since.

I put my pants, tie and suit coat back on, put my bag in the locker, took the key and then went to see if I could rent some pants. Because the temple had been so busy that day, and because of the lateness of the day, there were no pants available in my size. By this point, it was past 8:30 and the chapel meeting would have already started. I returned to my locker, retrieved my bag and then returned to my car and drove home. "Spiritually uplifted? Not tonight! Grrrrr!"

Although there is more I'd like to ramble about, it is nearing 9:00AM on Saturday morning and all of the natives are up and are restless. It is probably best I stop now and return to the blog at another date and time when I have the time to blog.....which may be never, but since I aim to not break my new habit, I will try to return next week whether there is a break in the madness or not.

Headlights and Tail Lights, Angels and Demons

We were driving home late the other night and Nathan said, "I like to think of the tail lights in front of us as devils." "And I like to think of the headlights behind us as Angels." "We are leading the battle of Angels and we're chasing all of the devils." I loved the creativity and imagination.  I had to share.  Driving at night will never be the same.  I have a feeling those words will stick with me. I thought a bit beyond his description and thought of those who pass me on the freeway.  They were once the Angels following me into battle.  Are they now Angels in the lead or the demons we chase?

A Father's Love

The other night, my wife and I were walking out of Walmart and saw a father with two young children.  Just before he left the store and went out into the cold night, the children both looked up at their dad and raised their arms above their heads, looking for comfort from the cold and icy conditions.  He bent down and scooped them up and carried them in each of his arms. Watching the man carrying two children, Coralee looked at me and said, "I remember those days." We both reflected on how quickly time has passed since our children were little.  Days seem to pass more quickly now and it is so easy to get caught up in the crazy and hectic routine that is our lives presently.  It isn't often there is time to slow down and reflect on those days of early parenting.  I speak as though the best memories have passed, but memories continue to be made everyday. Watching this father caused me to reflect on tender moments.  Our youngest is nearly eight years old.  Our oldest is

Hollywood's Best Kept Secret

Are you looking for free entertainment?  Bring your family, a few lawn chairs and an hour or two of your time and you won’t be disappointed.  The stage?  A backyard.  The entertainment?  A couple of horses, 13 chickens and a funny looking bald guy.  The only thing that could improve the performance is if the bald man could somehow figure out how to juggle the chickens while standing on a horse’s back.  I’m working on the juggling act. I have a friend that admitted he’s buying the home behind me because of the entertainment value.  He said when people figure out “Hollywood’s Best Kept Secret”, the home values around me will increase dramatically.  Last year, I bought two horses from a mule ranch in Moab.  Mules are smart.  They test fences by bumping them with their chests.  They will then rise up on their hind legs and leap over the fence like a gazelle.  One of my horses learned the fence jumping skill from the mules.  The first time she jumped the fence, I happened
