Protect her from the Vampires

Okay, blogger is telling me that April 19th was the last time I blogged. I find that hard to believe. I think it isn't telling me the truth.

Anywhooo, there is quite the buzz about the three books written by Stephenie Meyer, 'Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse'. The books have been flying off the shelves, and even if you try to put one of them on reserve at the library, you'll be on a waiting list behind at least 900 other people.

If you were to walk into a store, such as Seagull Book or Wal-mart, and ask for one of these novels, you'll most likely be chased off the premise by the store manager. He may even yell at you and threaten to inflict fatal injuries upon you. If you are lucky, you may find someone who has only worked at the store for a few days, and she may growl at you and say, "Hmmph! NO! We don't have it in stock! Every time a shipment arrives, the books are gone in just a few seconds."

These books seem to be most popular with women, but I have finished reading the first two books, and I am about 80 pages away from finishing the third. I am comfortable in letting you know that my masculinity has not been threatened for having read these books, nor for having shared this information with you.

(Spoiler Alert)

There are three central characters in these novels: Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black. It turns out, Edward Cullen is a vampire and Jacob Black is a werewolf. Both are in love with Bella Swan, but Bella's heart belongs to Edward.

Because Edward is a vampire, his body is cold as ice. Jacob Black, however, has a body temperature of about 109 degrees Fahrenheit.

As I read last night, Edward Cullen's family (all vampires) and Jacob Black's family, (mostly all werewolves), have become allies and are about to go to war with several vampires who are on a killing spree in Seattle. (Vampires and Werewolves are enemies, so this union is rather peculiar).

On the eve before war, the new allies are camping and awaiting a big battle. Bella tries to sleep through the night in a tent, but a very cold and bitter storm is fast approaching. She is freezing and potentially risks hypothermia.

Because Bella's love interest (Edward) does not have the body heat to keep her warm, Jacob willingly volunteers to keep Bella warm by climbing inside her sleeping bag with her. (If you haven't read this book, don't be alarmed! This book is far from being R rated. I would give it a mild PG rating.)

I won't go into anymore about these books......I'll leave that for each of you to enjoy for yourselves. The reason I bring this part of the book up is to explain my crazy dream last night:

I dreamed that I was supposed to protect Coralee from vampires, and I was in that tent with her that night on the eve before battle. I found myself somewhat conscious a few different times through the night, cuddling very closely with her in an effort to keep her warm, protecting her from the storm, and to keep any bloodsucker from getting to her.

I only hope she slept as well as I did last night. My worry is that she was hot and uncomfortable, and I was probably squeezing the life out of her. If she did sleep well, this bodes well for both of us, and I'll repeat this dream often, or at least the conscious efforts of the dream. :) Cuddling is good!

So my fellow men: Cowboy up and read yourselves a good Stephenie Meyer novel! Your masculine self, and your very feminine spouse, will thank you for it.

Headlights and Tail Lights, Angels and Demons

We were driving home late the other night and Nathan said, "I like to think of the tail lights in front of us as devils." "And I like to think of the headlights behind us as Angels." "We are leading the battle of Angels and we're chasing all of the devils." I loved the creativity and imagination.  I had to share.  Driving at night will never be the same.  I have a feeling those words will stick with me. I thought a bit beyond his description and thought of those who pass me on the freeway.  They were once the Angels following me into battle.  Are they now Angels in the lead or the demons we chase?

A Father's Love

The other night, my wife and I were walking out of Walmart and saw a father with two young children.  Just before he left the store and went out into the cold night, the children both looked up at their dad and raised their arms above their heads, looking for comfort from the cold and icy conditions.  He bent down and scooped them up and carried them in each of his arms. Watching the man carrying two children, Coralee looked at me and said, "I remember those days." We both reflected on how quickly time has passed since our children were little.  Days seem to pass more quickly now and it is so easy to get caught up in the crazy and hectic routine that is our lives presently.  It isn't often there is time to slow down and reflect on those days of early parenting.  I speak as though the best memories have passed, but memories continue to be made everyday. Watching this father caused me to reflect on tender moments.  Our youngest is nearly eight years old.  Our oldest is

Hollywood's Best Kept Secret

Are you looking for free entertainment?  Bring your family, a few lawn chairs and an hour or two of your time and you won’t be disappointed.  The stage?  A backyard.  The entertainment?  A couple of horses, 13 chickens and a funny looking bald guy.  The only thing that could improve the performance is if the bald man could somehow figure out how to juggle the chickens while standing on a horse’s back.  I’m working on the juggling act. I have a friend that admitted he’s buying the home behind me because of the entertainment value.  He said when people figure out “Hollywood’s Best Kept Secret”, the home values around me will increase dramatically.  Last year, I bought two horses from a mule ranch in Moab.  Mules are smart.  They test fences by bumping them with their chests.  They will then rise up on their hind legs and leap over the fence like a gazelle.  One of my horses learned the fence jumping skill from the mules.  The first time she jumped the fence, I happened
